Diploma in Early Childhood Education

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education Programme is aimed at preparing learners to meet the demands and challenges of the teaching profession at nursery and preschool levels for both public and private centres. It also seeks to complement the Government's target of ensuring that all teachers in the early childhood education system are bachelor degree (for Ministry Of Education) and at least diploma in the field for the private sectors by the year 2010. The Diploma of Early Childhood Education Programme provides an excellent opportunity for non-graduate teachers, school-leavers, and those interested in entering the teaching profession to be better equipped with a more solid command of the professional pedagogical and subject knowledge.

The Programme

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education courses are structured so as to improve and enhance learners' pedagogical abilities and teaching skills besides providing the necessary subject; knowledge base, curriculum, pedagogical, and management. The programme will enable graduates to master competencies in identifying the teaching and learning approaches for young children, and to be reflectively and professionally engaged in teaching-learning processes and experiences, curriculum planning, aspects of management, and development of the profession. The Early childhood Diploma Programme is designed to invite students to develop deeper understanding of local realities, moral and intellectual character.

Entry Requirements

• Passed SPM/SPMV/O-Level with 3 credits in any subject; or
• Skill Certificate Level 3 (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3) Technical/Vocational in relevant field  which recognized by Higher Education; or
• Other equivalent qualification recognized by Government of MalaysiaA pass in SPM / SPMV with 3 credits

English Proficiency Requirement

IELTS : International English Language Testing System
TOEFL : Test of English as a Foreign Language
UEPT : UNITAR English Placement Test

• Validity period of the IELTS or TOEFL qualification is two (2) years from the date of award. UNITAR does not accept any other English proficiency qualification or certificate except for the IELTS or TOEFL qualifications.
• International Students who do not possess either the IELTS or TOEFL qualification (or do not have the required score band) will be required to sit for the UNITAR-administered English Placement Test (UEPT).
• International Students who acquire the required score band of English based on the UEPT will be able to proceed to register for their faculty courses.
• International Students who acquire a lower score band of English based on the UEPT will be placed in the appropriate level of proficiency and are required to complete and pass an Intensive English Programme (IEP) before registering for their faculty courses.
